NFUM returned to action last night following the recent bad weather and festivities with a comfortable 3-0 victory over mid-table Huntington Sports Club.
The Mutual started the game strongest and created ample opportunities to put the game out of sight by half-time, but were clearly suffering from some post-christmas rustiness. Sam and Tom.H both saw efforts rattle the frame of the goal, as they got closer and closer to the goal they needed. Neil then opened the scoring midway through the first half, hitting a low near post drive past the Huntington Goalie. The second half was much the same, with almost every player guilty of missing some good chances, Sam managing to put his strike out for a throw in and Tom.T blasting over from close range.
Some good link up play from Adrian and Dave set Sam free down the right who laid the ball on a plate for Neil to make in 2-0 five minutes from time. Huntington rarely threatened, but in their one late effort of note, Tristan managed to stay alert for his only real save of the game to keep his fourth clean sheet of the season. In the dying seconds NFUM broke and again Adrian set Sam free who put some gloss on the victory with a almost identical goal to the first, this time from the left. This proved to be the last kick of the game, and the Blacks move up to 5th in the League, with a game in hand still to play against lowly El Salmon FC.
